With India deploying additional troops along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) amid tense situation, the Indian Army will be placing emergency orders for extreme cold weather tents for soldiers in eastern Ladakh. “We are going to place orders for extreme cold weather tents for our troops deployed in the eastern Ladakh sector,” top army sources told India Today in Leh.

The tents will be provided to troops at the earliest possible time frame, the source said. The Indian Army is looking at both European and Indian markets for extreme weather tents, sources added. The water level in the Galwan river has increased in the last few days. Along with tents, the Indian Army has also felt a need to provide specialised waterproof clothing to soldiers.

The Chinese side, meanwhile, is already equipped to deal with harsh conditions. The source said the combat dress of the Chinese troops allows them to step into the water, if required.

The specialised combat dress of the Chinese soldiers could have also helped them avoid hypothermia-related casualties after the bloody June-15 violent face-off.
