The Indian Navy's fifth Scorpene submarine, INS Vagir, commences its first sea sortie - Broadsword by Ajai Shukla

Indian Navy’s fifth Project 75 – INS Vagir – Kalvari class submarine Scorpene commenced sea trials on 1 February 22. The submarine was launched in November 2020 from the wet basin of Kanhoji Angre of Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL).

Despite the COVID pandemic, MDL delivered two Scorpene submarines of the project – 75 in 2021. The start of sea trials of the fifth submarine is an important milestone.

During sea trials, INS Vagir will undergo extensive testing of all of its systems at sea, including propulsion systems, weapons and sensors. The submarine is expected to be delivered to the Indian Navy in 2022 after the completion of these trials.
