istani man was arrested for mocking that country’s Prime Minister Imran Khan. The man reportedly posted a video on TikTok, a Chinese app now banned in India, criticising that country’s decision to include Kashmir in its new political map. In a video that went viral, the police were seen arresting the man, even as he was beaten up by the onlookers.

In a recently released political map, Pakistan claimed parts of Kashmir and Gujarat as parts of its territory. The move coincided with the anniversary of India’s decision to abrogate Article 370 and revoke the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.

“Today is a historic day for Pakistan as the Cabinet, opposition and Kashmiri leadership endorsed the new map… Kashmir will become part of Pakistan and this map is the first step toward it,” Khan said in an address to that nation earlier.

India rejects new map as ‘absurd’ exercise

Dismissing the move as ‘absurd’, India’s External Affairs Ministry, in a statement, said – “This is an exercise in political absurdity, laying untenable claims to territories in the Indian State of Gujarat and our Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and of Ladakh.”

Ever since August 5, 2019, when India revoked the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcated the state into two union territories, Pakistan has made numerous attempts to internationalise the matter.

Pakistan PM Imran Khan has, on several platforms, including the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), attempted to garner international support for Pakistan’s claims on Kashmir. He has, however, received a muted response from world bodies as well as from Pakistan’s allies including China.
