The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Saturday successfully launched its latest earth observation satellite — EOS-01 and announced all nine customer satellites successfully separated and injected into their intended orbit.
“#ISRO #EOS01 All nine customer satellites successfully separated and injected into their intended orbit. #PSLVC49,” ISRO tweeted on Saturday afternoon.
The earth observation satellite launch is the first since the coronavirus-induced lockdown was put in place in March. The launch took place at 3.12 PM after a delay of 10 minutes due to debris in the flight path, ISRO sources were quoted as saying by news agency PTI.
The space agency has mentioned that the PSLV-C49 would be carrying the RISAT-2BR2 satellite which is codenamed EOS-01 and nine other international commercial satellites.
“PSLV-C49/EOS-01 Mission: The countdown for the launch of PSLV-C49/EOS-01 mission commenced today at 13:02 Hrs
(IST) from Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) SHAR, Sriharikota,” ISRO had said in a statement on Friday.
The RISAT-2BR2 is a radar imaging satellite that features synthetic aperture radar (SAR) capable of shooting pictures in all weather conditions. The satellite can also shoot pictures during day and night and will be used for surveillance and for civilian activities as well.
EOS-01 is an earth observation satellite intended for applications in agriculture, forestry and disaster management support.
“India’s Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle in its 51st mission (PSLV-C49), will launch EOS-01 as primary satellite along with nine international customer satellites from Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) SHAR, Sriharikota. The launch is tentatively scheduled at 1502 Hrs IST on November 07, 2020, subject to weather conditions, ISRO said in a blog post.
