As the situation at Line of Actual Control (LAC) continues to remain tense due to the Chinese transgression in Eastern Ladakh, the Indian Army is keeping its Bofors howitzers ready for operations.

The engineers of the Indian security forces are servicing and maintaining 155 mm Bofors guns in Ladakh. The guns require periodical servicing and maintenance to keep roaring for which technicians have been deployed to keep it in working, officials said.

In the workshop, Army Engineers are in charge of maintaining and servicing all such weaponry required in odd situations. They said that the gun will be ready to roar in a few days. It is capable of firing both in low and high angles and will be deployed in Ladakh once they will be serviced.

“From a firing pin to engine assembly of a tank, technical store group’s job is to provide everything. This vehicle behind is mobile spares van, through this we provide components in the forward areas to repair technicians,” Lt Colonel Preeti Kanwar told news agency ANI while briefing about Army’s preparation in regards to servicing and maintenance in the forward areas.

The Bofors power
The Bofors gun was inducted into the regiment of artillery in the mid-1980s. The gun played a key role in helping India win battles such as the Operation Vijay was displayed in Dras in Jammu and Kashmir recently.

Earlier, the guns have proved their mettle in the 1999 Kargil war against Pakistan when they destroyed the bunkers and bases built on high altitude mountains with ease and caused heavy damage to the Pakistan Army.

Earlier today it was revealed that the Indian and the Chinese border troops were involved in three firing incidents in Eastern Ladakh over the past nearly three weeks. The fact that not a single shot was fired on the Sino-India de-facto border for 45 years is indicative of the serious situation that continues to prevail at the LAC.
