On the intervening night of August 29-30, the Indian Army once again thwarted the People’s Liberation Army’s misadventures near eastern Ladakh and pushed back the Chinese troops to take control of a previously unoccupied ‘strategic height’ in the region.

The central government was transparent enough to state that India took pre-emptive measures to foil the Chinese incursion and this, the Chinese government feels, is a violation of bilateral agreements. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying on Wednesday blamed India of violating border protocols and consensus along the Line of Actual Control after in wake of the valiant counter-operation by Indian troops.

“The Indian side claims it ‘pre-empted’ Chinese military activity. India’s statements reveal the fact that the Indian troops were the first to have illegally crossed the LAC, changed the status quo in the border areas, and violated bilateral agreements and important consensus,” the Chinese spokesperson said.

Furthermore, Beijing also threatened India to “stop all provocations” along the international border and asked New Delhi to “withdraw all personnel” who are standing guard thwarting the Chinese incursion.

“We urge the Indian side to strictly discipline its border troops, stop all provocations, immediately withdraw all personnel who illegally trespassed across the LAC, and stop taking any actions that may escalate tensions or complicate matters,” Hua said.

The Centre had on August 31 claimed that PLA troops violated the peace agreements along the LAC and the previous consensus arrived at during military and diplomatic engagements. They said that the Chinese military carried out provocative movements to alter the status quo.

“Indian troops pre-empted this PLA activity on the Southern Bank of Pangong Tso lake, undertook measures to strengthen our positions and thwart Chinese intentions to unilaterally change facts on ground. The Indian Army is committed to maintaining peace and tranquility through dialogue, but is also equally determined to protect its territorial integrity,” the Indian government had said in a statement.
