India on Thursday launched a blistering attack on Pakistan after the latter criticised the Indian government for starting construction of Ram Temple in Ayodhya amid coronavirus pandemic. In a strong-worded response, India urged the Imran Khan-led government to read their own country’s constitution before making such comments.
Responding to queries on a statement made by Pakistan on commencement of construction of Ram Mandir, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson said, “We’ve seen an absurd statement by Pakistan on a matter on which it has no locus standing. Given its record, Pakistan should be embarrassed to even mention minorities.”
“India is a nation served by the rule of law and which guarantees equal rights to all faiths. Pakistan’s Foreign Office may take time out and read their own constitution to realise the difference,” added the spokesperson.
Pakistan slams Ram Mandir construction amid COVID-19 pandemic
Yesterday, Pakistan’s Foreign Office in a statement said that while the world is battling with the unprecedented coronavirus or COVID-19 pandemic, “the RSS-BJP combine” is advancing its “Hindutva agenda”.
“The commencement of construction of a mandir at the site of the historic Babri Masjid in Ayodhya on May 26, 2020, is another step in this direction and the Government and people of Pakistan condemn it in the strongest terms,” read the statement.
The Foreign Office further stated that developments relating to the Babri Masjid, the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and initiation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) process is proof enough of how Muslims in India are being marginalised.
On the contrary, the Indian government has maintained that these are India’s internal matters and Pakistan should not interfere with them.
