An Israeli Navy corvette fires the C-Dome system, an advanced Iron Dome naval configuration
Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, the Israel Missile Defense Organization (IMDO), the Defense R&D Directorate of the Israeli Ministry of Defense, and the IDF have successfully completed a series of live-fire tests of the system” C-Dome” – an advanced naval configuration of the Iron Dome air defense system.
The ‘C-Dome’ was first used aboard the Sa’ar 6 corvette, Israeli Navy ship (INS) Magen, against multiple advanced threats. INS Magen crew members conducted the “C-Dome” tests.
The test campaign consisted of a number of scenarios simulating advanced threats, including rockets, cruise missiles and drones. The ‘C-Dome’ has demonstrated that it is capable of successfully intercepting such threats,” Rafael said in a press release on Tuesday.
India and Israel have worked together to develop the carrier-based long-range surface-to-air missile (LR-SAM) and medium-range surface-to-air missile (MR-SAM). The first is installed in the capital warships of the Indian Navy.
“This successful live-fire test is an important milestone and demonstrates the operational capability of the Israeli Navy to defend the strategic assets and vital interests of the State of Israel against current and evolving threats,” Rafael said.
Rafael’s Chief Naval Warfare Systems Officer, Ran Tavor, said, “Rafael is proud to announce the completion of a series of successful tests of the Iron Dome naval configuration. This test marks the end of a process of development and adaptation of the Iron Dome to naval platforms, in accordance with the requirements defined by the DDR&D and the IDF. The tests demonstrated Rafael’s advanced engineering and development capabilities, as well as his ability to successfully integrate complex systems.”
