Pakistan-based terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) is planning to carry out another attack similar to the 26/11 Mumbai terror strike and has joined hands with underworld don and designated terrorist Dawood Ibrahim, News18 quoted intelligence sources as saying in its report.
The report quoted sources claiming that Ibrahim was spotted on Sunday at his farmhouse in Islamabad, which is next to the residence of former Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf. Ibrahim was accompanied by members of Pakastan’s spy agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) for a meeting with Lashkar leaders, they added.
Intelligence sources claimed an intercept revealed that Lashkar is planning to send weapons to Gujarat and Maharashtra via sea route. The ISI is seeing the ongoing coronavirus crisis as an opportunity to target Indian cities as majority of the security apparatus is busy handling the crisis due to COVID-19 and the circumstantial lockdown.
The report further claimed that Lashkar’s second-in-command Abdul Rehman Makki recently visited Karachi and met Ibrahim to coordinate the plan of attack.
The sources quoted in the report also said that the ISI has give Dawood the task of sending weapons within India through his modules in the country.
The spike in terrorist activities in the Kashmir Valley have been on a rise ever since the government in August last year revoked Article 370 which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir. The United States had also expressed a possibility of a terror attack on India by Pakistani terrorists.
Dawood, who heads a vast and multifaceted illegal business, has emerged as India’s most wanted terrorist after the 1993 Mumbai bombings. Ibrahim is the main accused in the 1993 serial bomb blasts case in Mumbai in which around 260 people were killed, and more than 700 were injured. He fled India post the bombings and is hiding in Pakistan at present.
According to the US, Dawood maintains close links with terror outfit al-Qaeda. As a result, the US last year declared him a “global terrorist” and pursued the matter before the United Nations in an attempt to freeze his assets across the world and crack down on his operations.
